Torrance Memorial Medical Center offers the benefits of a comprehensive Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) delivering the highest level of care for our tiniest patients. Our NICU is a 25-bed, Level IIIB unit with 24-hour, in-hospital neonatology coverage.

Neonatal care is provided for the mildly to most critically ill infant with a wide range of diagnoses. Parents can take comfort in knowing our NICU offers the most innovative services and technology needed for complex care.

Parents who understand they have a higher risk pregnancy are able to take advantage of the Maternity Services Tours and arrange for a private tour of the NICU. Call our team to schedule and register for a tour.

Our warmers are designed to keep baby warm, comfortable and healthy. An innovative recessed heater design lets you see and access your baby, and it keeps babies warm and content while keeping you cool and comfortable. The integrated in-bed scale makes weighing every baby quick and easy. You can turn on the warmer well in advance so the bed will be ready when the baby arrives. Optional integrated SPO2 and resuscitation systems allow access to everything needed to deliver resuscitation therapy to high-risk newborns.

The NICU has two negative pressure isolation rooms. The air pressure in these rooms is lower than adjacent areas, which keeps the air from flowing out of the room. This helps with infection control in this critical care unit. The room will allow for the care of neonates (newborns up to 28 days) who are readmitted from home.

Streaming newborn video for families. The NICVIEW Web Camera is an innovative small camera system in the NICU that allows parents, family and friends to view their infant in real-time, 24/7, through a secure online portal. This service helps families develop that bond with their preemie or hospitalized infant even when they are unable to be in the NICU. The system also allows the caregivers in the NICU to manage infant viewing securely via secure, encrypted transmissions.

Family-centered care. Making parents feel more involved strengthens trusting relationships and provides reassurance, allowing healthcare professionals to focus on the job of caring for their NICU patients. This simple device provides a value-added service for parents and relatives, increasing patient satisfaction.

Safe with bank-level security. Viewing of the baby's intimate environment is protected by encrypted transmissions. Live streaming is only accessible to specified users using passwords issued by the NICU. No recordings are made, and no images are stored.

Simple. An unobtrusive camera mounted close to the bed delivers streamed video images around the clock, so that families can watch their newborn anytime, anywhere - on any device with internet access.

This large, private room is designated for the comfort and respite of the parent of a critical baby, or one who is nursing around the clock. Amenities include a comfortable bed, coffee maker and microwave.

The Gliding Sleeper Recliner Chair is designed to support care and to improve the NICU experience for parents and newborns. It is all about comfort, support and safety for the whole family. The wide back supports mother and the baby as they position from side to side. The chair locks in all of its reclined positions so there is no sudden movement that would be startling and potentially dangerous. The chair also reclines completely flat to allow for sleep and rest. It is a chair that embraces mother and baby, so she can focus on nurturing her little one.

In lieu of hard walls, glass sliders divide rooms and enable nurses to view infants across multiple rooms, while still allowing privacy for babies and their families. It also allows parents with twins and other multiples the ability to see and move between adjacent rooms. Curtains can be drawn for added privacy, and mothers can use the privacy curtains while nursing.

Going beyond just warming breast milk, this warmer ensures each feeding is always safely delivered within the ideal human physiological temperature range of 98F – 100F, regardless of the starting temperature. A feature unique is the gentle vibration technology prevents potential nutritional degradation by continuously stirring the breast milk throughout the warming cycle for a more even and consistent warming and eliminates the needs to shake or roll the milk to even out dangerous hot spots.

Each room is equipped with its own refrigerator so mom can pump and store milk exclusively for her little one.
